Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common workplace injury. A small group of musculoskeletal disorders cases have difficulty getting back to work and are at risk of secondary psychological injuries and there is a human and financial cost.
Effectively identifying and managing these cases demands substantial internal organizational and Workers’ compensation resources. Despite the musculoskeletal nature of these issues, it is psychosocial risk factors, rather than physical ones, that are closely associated with this particular group.
The Orebro musculoskeletal screening questionnaire (Orebro) serves as a psychosocial screening tool designed for musculoskeletal disorders affecting any part of the body. Taking only about three minutes to complete, Orebro has demonstrated an 85% predictive accuracy for anticipating difficulties in returning to work and persistent disability.
Dr. David Brentnall FACP will share the myriad psychosocial risk factors influencing return-to-work (RTW) outcomes and risk of secondary psychological injury and highlight the Orebro’s value in identifying individuals with delayed recovery or delayed return to work following musculoskeletal disorders.
